1. Have you ever seen this book before? Only a newspaper photographer would understand it or receive it as a Christmas gift from another photographer. So my fellow photographer at work brought this in yesterday to show it to me and I couldn’t get myself to look through it!! There was a brief period of time where I was fascinated by murders and car wrecks and started watching reality TV shows on solving said cases and it made me have some crazy dreams at night so I had to stop. It is fascinating but at the same time when I close my eyes I don’t want to have a picture of a dismembered body floating around in my head. Maybe if I get over my sensitive side again I’ll probably take a gander soon because the suspense is killing me. OK, I didn’t mean to do that… But, Mell Kilpatrick died long before this book was published. He photographed through the 40’s and 50’s and it looks like he whipped out a speed graphix or some large format of some sort. It is pretty interesting to know that car wrecks with dead bodies and murders used to actually be PUBLISHED in the newspaper. The photographer and I swapped stories about the amount of gore we’ve seen and since he’s worked a lot longer than I have and in the days when there wasn’t as much red tape, they were pretty interesting to say the least. News people always have some pretty awesome stories to tell.

2. I cannot believe the Rocky Mountain News just shut down. Is gone. ? ? ?????

3. People really need to take off their hands free head set from their ear when they are not on the phone. Earring? No! Really tacky looking? YES!!!

I was fighting with this window light, trying to use flash so it would be a ‘newspaper ready’ shot. Then for a second I said screw it and saw this throught the viewfinder. Natural, as it was, no flash and undisturbed. A photo for myself. I liked it and submitted it to the paper amongst several other shots of this annual meeting. We’ll see if they actually use it. This week was pretty busy, disturbingly with a lot of cars landing in bodies of water and people at eachother’s throats. I myself tried to hold it together this week. I don’t know what it was, full moon or wacky weather but I know one thing: I wanted to scream and smack somebody a couple times and pack my bags for Guam. But this photo resonates for me. Music helped me get through it.

Here’s a link that gave me a great chuckle that I found off a photo a day: The Water Dance People jumping over puddles in NYC.
