The 2009 winners are up for the Best of Photojournalism sponsored by the National Press Photographer’s Association.
I’m always really encouraged and pumped to see such amazing and honest work produced by these incredible visual storytellers. I think it’s a great way to showcase to the rest of the world the kind of influential work that is still being produced.

Kevin Harvick wins! This is an Iwo Jima shot – he had to do it again for the photographers. And then he and his entire crew did it about five more times (with him off of the car holding a trophy now changing hats for different sponsors) and somebody shouting, “Ready! 1, 2, 3… woo!” I have to say, they were pretty good at it though. Authencity is down the tubes.
